Anchors to plot
Rather than following a single line on a map, plot these anchors and connect them in the order that suits your day:
- The beachfront pier town on A1A
- The coastal state park and gardens to the north
- The sugar mill ruins inland to the south
- The county seat at the crossroads of SR 100 and US 1
- The agricultural museum west and north of town
- The western farm hamlets along SR 100
Mileage in round numbers
- Coast to county seat: about 10 miles, 15 minutes.
- County seat to the western county line: about 20 miles, 25 minutes.
- Coastal park north to the ruins south: about 25 miles along A1A and the inland road.
- Full loop with spurs: 98 miles, seven to nine hours with stops.
Navigation advice
Download offline maps before you leave the coast. Signal is dependable on the main highways and unreliable in the preserves and on the western county roads. Highway numbers are more useful than road names here: SR 100 for the east-west crossing, A1A for the coast, US 1 for the north-south run through the middle of the county, and the old Kings Road alignment for the historic northern leg.
Cycling the corridor
The coastal leg has a marked bike lane for much of its length and is popular with road cyclists early in the morning. Inland, shoulders narrow and truck traffic increases; the western segments are for confident riders only.
